PACE - Police and Criminal Evidence Act

Course Information

The role of the Appropriate Adult was created in the Police and Criminal Evidence Act (PACE) 1984, with the intention of further safeguarding the rights and welfare of young people and vulnerable adults in custody.

This course allows professionals to explore their roles and responsibilities that were created as part of the Act and to test out (In a safe environment) the way in which they apply these roles in safeguarding someone under caution.

Who Should Attend

This course is suitable for staff from many different disciplines including Residential Workers, Social Workers, and Youth Workers, Support workers, Children & Adult Advocacy Workers and workers within Youth / Adult Justice.

Course Content

Background to the legislation and its context
An overview of the PACE codes of practice
Home Office guidance for Appropriate Adults
Breakdown of custody personnel and their respective roles
Checklist of tasks at the police station
Mental Health and Learning Disability Issues
The course will allow for much open discussion and interactive learning to allow learners to leave the day much more confident in working within situations as an appropriate adult.
